I spent this morning birding various points along the south fork of Long
Island. Migration was evident at almost every stop, and it was obvious that
a relatively large movement of birds had taken place last night. I began at
Montauk Point, where I located an immature *Orange-crowned Warbler *near the
concession stand, an *Eastern Meadowlark* which rested briefly on the lawn
by the concession stand, and an adult *White-crowned Sparrow*.

Camp Hero was covered in migrants, the most interesting of which was an
adult male *Lapland Longspur* which landed five feet from me on the lawn in
front of the parking lot. I also observed an immature *White-crowned
Sparrow *in the park dump.

The *Greater White-fronted Goose* continued in the pasture at the Deep
Hollow Ranch.

Sagg Pond was quiet, but Mecox held relatively good numbers of shorebirds.
Anthony Collerton picked out an *American Golden-plover *in flight which was
then observed on the flats. From Horsemill Lane I found an immature *Bald
Eagle* flying over the north end of the bay which provided some decent scope
views.

Dune Road was relatively quiet, but I did flush a *Wilson's Snipe* from the
muddy ditch along Triton Lane. Extensive searching at Cupsogue provided
excellent views of a *subvirgatus* *Nelson's Sparrow.* Otherwise the only
other bird of note at the location was an adult *Tricolored Heron.*
