NYbirders,
I just saw this report on eBird and thought it was worth forwarding.

Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula arctica) (1)
- Reported Jan 02, 2012 11:00 by Marlene DuBois
- Montauk SP, Suffolk, New York
- Map:
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&q=41.0708333,-71.8586111&ll=41.0708333,-71.8586111
- Checklist: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S9476464
- Comments : "Sitting on water, barrel-shaped body, entire length of
belly white, black upper, bulky orangish bill--ruled out Dovekie,
Razorbill and any other similarly shaped species, bc bills on all
others are smaller (sleekly-shaped) black bills. Observed for full 15
minutes, swimming alone, with Common Eiders nearby."

Good luck, and please post if you relocate the puffin tomorrow.
Cheers,
Tom
