I led a walk in Central Park this morning between Strawberry Fields and the
Castle, and we did pretty well, although it was blustery and chilly.
There seems to have been a bit of an influx of migrants over the past couple
days.  Many of them were singing, which is nice.  We had several Northern
Parulas singing, Palm Warblers, Pine Warblers, Yellow-rumped and
Black-and-white Warblers (singing as well), Ruby-crowned Kinglets, numerous
Eastern Towhees singing, a Swamp Sparrow, and a singing Brown Thrasher.
The highlights were a Blue-winged Warbler "Beee-Bzzzz"ing in an oak tree at the
edge of that little triangular meadow north of the Upper Lobe area, and of
course the Kentucky Warbler, who was moving all over the place around the
Shakespeare Gardens just east of the Swedish Cottage.  He was mostly staying
within a couple feet of the ground, as Kentuckys are wont to do.
Not a bad morning!  I imagine things will really pick up once this cold front
clears out...
Good Birding,
