Thursday, 3 May, 2012 - Manhattan, N.Y. City

What may well be the fourth Kentucky Warbler (or at any rate the 4th
reliable report) of this spring in Manhattan has been found in Bryant
Park [mid-town] Manhattan, by Matthew Rymkiewicz, seen first by M.R.
around the south side of the park's "plant holding area', a small
enclosed section that's close to 40 St. and almost half-way up from
Sixth Ave. towards Fifth Avenue; the warbler was present ~ 45 minutes
ago in that general area and it may be found with some patience. There
are a variety of other migrants present in Bryant Park now as well.

Other Kentucky Warblers include one in the north end of Central Park,
as reported earlier today by James Demes, and the one reported from
the Ramble area in Central Park yesterday, as well as the one seen by
many observers not a week ago also in Central Park. Speaking of
Central Park there have already been 30+ species of wood-warblers
found in just that one park on the day, today, also absolutely
remarkable. That is not including the 2 named hybrid Blue-winged x
Golden-winged warblers that have been seen as well, "Lawrence's" and
"Brewster's" Warblers, both in Central today.

A GRASSHOPPER Sparrow found and photographed today By Stephen Chang is
perhaps the most uncommon of migrants thus far reported from
Manhattan's Central Park, near Sheep Meadow's northern perimeter but
in the smaller enclosed (fenced) bocci-ball, croquet and such sporting
lawns, within the more easterly of the 2 lawn areas. This is also
immediately west of the Mineral Springs pavillion snack bar area that
is on the north path of Sheep Meadow. The one photo taken at the time
of discovery (with a simple camera) is linked here:

  - and that photo is by Steve Chang.

It's been a remarkable several days of migration & this day is not
over yet!

Good luck,

Tom Fiore,
Manhattan
