Following up on my earlier post of today, re: the Sound Ave, Riverhead Cattle
Egret, which was found by Mike Lotito on 5/2, seen & first reported by Eileen
Schwinn 5/2, and the subject of subsequent, positive posts by Anthony Collerton
5/2 and Aaron Virgin 5/3, was also seen twice by me today, first at ~ 0915,
and then again at 1135.
Getting a late start, I arrived at the Reeve Farm-stand, to find the CAEG "on
station". After taking a number of, what should have been, adequate photos, I
got greedy, and tried getting closer to the bird. To my dismay, it lifted off,
and flew hard to the east. With much guilt, I attempted to track the the egret
(for people who might be trying for it later) , but soon lost it. I continued
on to the North Fork Preserve, farther east on Sound Ave, where I picked up FOY
Wood Thrush & FOS Swamp Sparrow.
On my return trip home, I got "bailed-out"...the CAEG had returned ! Not to the
R, F-s., but ~ 100 yards to the east, in front of the 4, plastic hot houses, at
house # 1138. Much relieved, I made a vow to remember this encounter, when next
tempted to get that "super shot" !
Cheers, Bob
