Yesterday and today, I searched for the previously reported WFIB in the
northwest woods of E.Hampton, without success.
In support of Rob Jett's observation & comment re: Snapping Turtles (contained
in his earlier post of today) I also had 2 similar sightings (away from water)
today in the n/w woods.
Since I was out east, I decided to see if there were any birds of interest at
either Sagg Pond or Mecox Bay. Due to heavy fog conditions, outside of a few
Great Black-backed Gulls and an unidentified large tern, to paraphrase Sargent
Schultz (of "Hogan's Heroes" fame) "I saw nothinggggggggg" !
Because of it's proximity to Sagg, I swung passed the Mecox Bay Dairy, s/s
Mecox Rd., at the intersection of Mecox La., Bridgehampton, and found the CAEG,
which has been reported from there for weeks now. I find it a bit puzzling that
I now have seen this specie on both "forks" this spring, but still have not
seen Blue-headed Vireo on either !
I stopped at the M/B/D Farm-stand, spoke with the dairy's owner, and found that
my guess (Brown Swiss) re: the species of cow that the egret has taken up with,
was wrong - it is your "run of the mill", Jersey !
Cheers,Bob
