A winter-plumaged Sandwich Tern put in a brief appearance before Frank Mantlik
and me at Cupsogue, Suffolk, LI, around 12:30. A crop-duster helicopter
appeared right on its heels, and the tern departed as the latter began noisily
spraying the marsh. Earlier, we, along with Doug Futuyma and Steve Walter,
watched a breeding-plumaged Gull-billed Tern put in a slightly longer, though
still brief, appearance around 10:00, and two Black Terns were present through
most of the morning. Steve saw a Marbled Godwit before 9:00, but this was not
re-found, despite considerable effort.
