Today I had the pleasure of taking my 17 year old nephew Neal Vita birding - this being only his 2nd time in the field, and 1st time looking for shorebirds. We saw a total of 39 species, with 30 of them being new to Neal. He was thrilled...as was I ! The following abbreviated list consists of his top 3 favorites and other highlights: 1) Pair of Red-tail Hawks in flight. 2) Osprey on nest, and another on ground. 3) Common Egret 4) Buff-breasted Sandpiper at Eastport Sod Farm, Eastport-Manor Rd., which was pointed out by Aaron Virgin. 5) Golden Plover at e/s Route 51 Sod Farm, n/o E-M Rd., Eastport 6) Marbled Godwit on flats, Cupsogue Co. Pk. 7) 17 Red Knots, s/a/above. 8) 18 Royal Terns,Westhampton Dunes Overlook. Cheers, Bob --
