This afternoon at the Somerset-Barker Wastewater Treatment Plant, Dean
DiTommaso picked out two very early adult GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE among
the many geese and gulls here. We also had 14 CACKLING GEESE and a juvenile
PEREGRINE FALCON here. This is on Lower Lake Road in the Town of Somerset,
Niagara County.

Watching the lake from 7:50 to noon at home yesterday, I had 34 species of
birds, including my first of fall SURF SCOTER (2), LONG-TAILED DUCK (1),
RED-THROATED LOON (2), DUNLIN (4), and LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL (an adult).
See Saturday list, below.

On Sunday, Dean watched the lake with me during the same time period as
Saturday and we had 42 species. There was a heavy movement of waterfowl and
a number of land birds around our watch site. Although I had nothing new
today, 32 SURF SCOTERS, many unidentified dark-winged scoters, 285
WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, and 157 NORTHERN PINTAIL were highlights. See Sunday
list, below.

Good birding!

Willie
