On Eichybush Road in Kinderhook, around noon, birding from our car we spotted a
light rough-legged hawk perched in a tree at the side of the road (on a winding
turn where we could not stop). As we drove further on to a straightaway where
we could turn, a flock of about 50 snow buntings were feeding at the road's
edge before flying into the adjacent field. A little further, a kestrel was
perched on a telephone pole. When we returned to the rough-legged, it lifted
off, showing a pale belly, so perhaps an adult male.
