Sue Feustel found a Lapland Longspur feeding with a small flock of Horned Larks at the east side of the Field 6 parking lot near the playground equipment at Heckscher State Park around 3:30PM this afternoon. Eventually the flock took off and headed east. I arrived about a half-hour later and relocated the flock of five Horned Larks and one Lapland Longspur feeding in the Field 7 parking lot. This was my first Lapland Longspur of the year (and not a moment to soon). Let's hope it hangs around till tomorrow for those starting their 2013 list.
