In December 2012 a report came into E-bird of a Northern Hawk-Owl in Saratoga
County.  The bird was seen briefly and then not again, until this afternoon.
The description of the bird fit very well for Northern Hawk-Owl and supposedly
photographs were taken this afternoon (as well as being seen by a number of
people).

Now the frustrating part, this bird is non-chase able.  It has chosen a secure
government facility with absolutely no public access without proper clearance.
In fact it may take upwards of a week for the photos to be approved for
release.  As soon as I get them, I will make the available for viewing.

Sorry for all you listers and big year folk out there!  But there must be 1 or
2 more hiding somewhere out there!  The observer was encouraged to make a
NYSARC report.  This would be the 1st Northern Hawk-Owl in Region 8, since the
one in Root, Montgomery County in 2003.

Good Birding!
