To echo the comments of Willie D'Anna and Kim Hartquist, it was an incredible
day of birding along the Niagara River near Niagara Falls on Saturday, 1/19. A
custom tour covering Lewiston, Devil's Hole State Park, Whirlpool St. Pk. and
Goat Island on the U.S. side and the Control Gates, Dufferin Islands area, and
Adam Beck on the Canadian side produced 42 species, ending with Snowy Owls in
St. Catherines. There were many highlights, mainly the overwhelming number of
gulls on the river, truly a "blizzard of gulls", that provided looks at 10
species.

Horned Grebe - 3
Double-crested Cormorant - 5
15 species of waterfowl
Harlequin Duck - 1 female (from Goat Island above Horseshoe Falls)
Bald Eagle - 3
Peregrine Falcon - 1
Purple Sandpiper - 4 (rocks above barge near Horseshoe Falls)
Little Gull - 2 (Lewiston)
Bonaparte's Gull - 5,000+ (almost all adults, most near Lewiston)
Iceland Gull - 21 (14 at Adam Beck)
Glaucous Gull - 5
Lesser Black-backed Gull - 5
Thayer's Gull - 3 (2 adult, 1 1st winter)
Black-legged Kittiwake - 1 juvenile (Devil's Hole State Park)
Snowy Owl - 2 (adult male, adult female - St. Catherines)
