We spent a frigid morning birding at Southard's Pond in Babylon Village. Upon
first arrival we noted that the pond was mostly frozen, with only a a small
area on the north end open. While scanning the packed waterfowl (mostly Canada
Geese) we observed a hawk sitting up in a tree near the waterfowl. We went back
and got the scope and put in on the bird - an immature Red-shouldered Hawk.
Other birds found in the woods south of Southard's Pond included Hermit Thrush
(2), Eastern Towhee (1), Golden-crowned Kinglet (3), and Winter Wren (2).
