The highlight of a chilly walk through the Ramble this morning was a European Goldfinch at Maintenance meadow, hanging out with a group of 5 House Finches. He sat peacefully with them and flew out when they did. Photos here : http://edgaillard.smugmug.com/Bird-ID/European-Goldfinch-2013-01-25/27715501_59Gd6P No bands that I saw. I wonder if he's the same individual I saw several times last spring along the Gill.
Also, three Red-Tailed Hawks at Evodia, one juvenile and two adults. I think I've seen this group of hawks several times recently; the adults frequently on the ground or poking around in low brush, as they were today, with the juvenile sitting up in a tree and remaining behind when the adults move along. Otherwise, the usual suspects. American Goldfinches almost as numerous as the Titmousoi today.
