Prospect Park 20 Mar Joe Giunta and I (Sy Schiff) found the VARIED THRUSH a bit after 10:00 AM this morning, our first stop in the park, and asked Rob to post to the NY List (which he did). Although cold, the sun was bright presenting a nice early Spring day.
The early migrants were 3 EASTERN PHOEBE, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, COMMON GRACKLE and BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD. A full complement of expected winter birds made the morning walk enjoyable.. The best were the very common and tame PINE SISKIN, both as we birded, but mostly at the feeders. We did not look for other winter finches and did not see any, mostly confining ourselves to our successful find of our target bird. Species seen-32.
