I enjoyed a morning of counting waterfowl with Celeste Morien today at
Iroquois NWR. It was cold and most of the ponds were more than 50% frozen.
The number of Canada Geese was impressive. Despite the adverse weather,
this species has still built up to what I would consider a migration peak.
Among the 10,000 plus geese on Ring-necked Marsh were two GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE that Celeste and I found. We informed John Welte, who
then found four at that location. At Kumph Marsh, we had one more
WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE.

At the Cayuga Pool overlook, there was an adult NORTHERN SHRIKE.

Ring-necked Marsh is accessed by going east from Rt 63 onto Oak Orchard
Ridge Road, then turning right into the north overlook parking lot. Kumph
Marsh is right along Rt 77 and Feeder Road (the latter only for authorized
vehicles), just south of Cayuga Pool. Cayuga and Kumph are on Rt 77 between
Salt Works Road and Casey Road, roughly a mile from either (Genesee County).

Good birding!
