today jim cullen and I spent several hours birding cupsogue beach.there was an
extensive low tide flat as the strong north winds kept water out of the bay.we
approached via skiff and located an extensive tern colony on the extreme
bayside of the flats.besides several hundred common terns we picked out four
roseate terns, all in breeding plumage with a beautiful wash of pink.we tried
hard but could not pick out an arctic tern that has been reported recently.also
we counted 26 red knot (none of which we could see were banded)
thanks lee stocker
