Highlights of reports received July 11 through July 18 from the Niagara Frontier Region include MARBLED GODWIT, AMER. WHITE PELICAN and EARED GREBE. The evening of July 14, on the Lake Erie shore in Dunkirk, three very rare MARBLED GODWITS and a WILLET, at Wright Park Beach. The godwits and willet flew off, but were relocated about 15 north along the lakeshore at the mouth of Cattaraugus Creek in Hanover. In the BOS archives, only four records of single MARBLED GODWITS in the past 20 years. A vagrant species with increased occurrences in recent year - AMER. WHITE PELICAN at Cayuga Pool in the Iroquois Refuge, on July 13. Still present on the 15th, the pelican has been found among an array of 60 GREAT EGRETS. Also at Cayuga Pool, 2 BLACK TERNS and at least 10 shorebird species, highlighted by 2 STILT SANDPIPERS and 6 SHORT-B. DOWITCHERS, plus SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SOLITARY SANDPIPER, SEMIPALM. SANDPIPER and LEAST SANDPIPER. Along the Iroquois Refuge Onondaga Trail, 3 ACADIAN FLYCATCHERS continue, plus a BL.-THR. GREEN WARB. And the PURPLE MARTIN monitoring program in the Iroquois Refuge and surrounding areas notes 293 hatchlings from 92 nests. July 13, EARED GREBE at the Batavia Waste Water Plant, a frequent summer location for this otherwise rare species. AMERICAN WIGEONS, HOODED MERGANSERS and RUDDY DUCKS also at the plant. In the Cattaraugus County Town of Ashford, another location for CLAY-COL. SPARROW - Bond Road south of Thomas Corners, with 4 VESPER SPARROWS. On Beech Tree Road in Ashford, 8 warbler species included 3 MOURNING WARBLERS, plus VEERY, SCARLET TANAGER and INDIGO BUNTING. Other recent reports - adult BALD EAGLE feeding for several days at the mouth of Johnson Creek at Lake Ontario in Orleans County. At Niagara Falls, above the Canadian Falls, 47 GREAT EGRETS, 7 BL.-CR. NIGHT-HERONS and numerous D.- CREST. CORMORANTS. In downtown Niagara Falls, a BALTIMORE ORIOLE.
