There was an American Avocet in the northeast shore of Meadow Lake in Flushing Meadow - Corona Park, Queens, this morning. After a few minutes, it flew out of site to the west shore. I think I recall seeing a recent report of an avocet in this park. This bird looked like a bright male. A few hundred yards south along the east shore was a small group of shorebirds including Semipalmated and Least Sandpipers and two Short-billed Dowitchers, a rarity for this park. Other birds of note included Forster's and Least Terns and several Marsh Wrens.
