Mark French and I conducted a hit-n-run seawatch from the Field 2 beach
from 523-849AM. Viewing conditions were quite favorable. Two NORTHERN
GANNETS were in view on occasion. The highlight however was a small group
of 4 MANX SHEARWATER. They were flying in a rather direct manner - west to
east - around 8:25AM. I initially spotted them looking 2 o'clock from the
beach and followed them to roughly 10 o'clock (several minutes time). Got
good looks at all key field marks in the scope, which I bumped up to 60x.
The birds were "shearwating" low over the water - alternating between
textbook "fairly quick, choppy" wingbeats and gliding.
