I continue to keep an eye on the shorebird migration on the East Pond at
Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in Queens NY. Following the low number of
shorebirds on the pond this past weekend the trend continued all week
through today.

Yesterday, the number of shorebirds on the East Pond was estimated around
700. Today's estimation was even lower, with around 500 shorebirds
scattered around the North and South ends of the pond.

The juvenile *STILT SANDPIPERS* and *RED KNOTS* that were observed this
past weekend and up to 1 of each as of yesterday have all pulled out.
Only one *WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER* was observed this afternoon near the
North End. Short-billed Dowitchers, Black-belied Plovers, Semipalmated
Sandpipers and Semipalmated Plovers made up the majority of the
shorebirds. Unfortunately, the recent low number of Pectoral and Western
Sandpipers continues - ZERO.

It does not look good for shorebird numbers to increase significantly on
the East Pond given the prediction of with SW winds tomorrow and into the
weekend but who knows with migration.
