While enjoying Fall warblers this morning at Peach Hill in the town of
Poughkeepsie on a Waterman Bird Club outing, we all experienced an
amazing flight of Broad-winged Hawks. They came in waves, at times
kettling above us low enough that binoculars were not needed to count
the bands on their tails. During a period of perhaps 35 minutes we
counted 118 BWHA on their journey south. This is by far the largest
number of BWHA I've seen in one day in Dutchess Co. Some of the warblers
were Blackburnian, Black-throated Green, Prairie, Magnolia, Common
Yellowthroat.
