City) To Joe G's CP listing, I'd briefly add that from the north end of the park, another round of Yellow-shafted Flickers went through, with at least 300 (twice the number counted a day earlier at the same early a.m. hour just at and before sunrise) moving across the n. end airspace and to the SW, headed out of the park - then, in a 90-minute rapid recon. of n. end areas, a goodly number (25+) in just one site, the small meadowed area at the SE upper edges of the Great Hill, plus dozens more of flickers - an indicator of strong nocturnal flight also having passed - and a few other highlights, such as a Yellow-billed Cuckoo in the Loch, plus modest warbler numbers in various areas, with the highlight for me a male-plumaged Hooded Warbler along the "ridge" trail that overlooks the meer from the north woods, also Tennessee + other warbler spp. in that same area. Also discernible were a goodly number of icterids, most seeming to be Common Grackles, but a smattering of Bobolinks "pinking" out of the compost area as trucks (workers) came in, & some Red-winged Blackbirds and Brown-headed Cowbirds in the area as well. As to White-throated Sparrows, a small number have been around a while, & a miniscule number were in both Central & Riverside Parks in summer, that is "bird" summer, back in June & July: those assumed as in other summers in Manhattan, to be just that, summering, and NOT breeding birds. Also a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker in the north end, and I noted a few more vocal White- breasted Nuthatches around than I had been aware of lately - before this fall.
