> Apologies for the lateness of this post: early this morning I had a
> relatively brief but excellent, close look at a Le Conte's Sparrow on Fort
> Drum. For those familiar with Fort Drum, it was in Training Area 12C just
> south of Hunter Creek and just southwest of the intersection between Antwerp
> Road and Zimmer Road (the latter is a dirt road that connects Poagland and
> Antwerp Roads; it is not named on most maps because it is closed to private
> vehicles, but you can walk it). I saw it just a few feet off Zimmer Road
> about 75 yards from Antwerp Road, but it flew a short distance to the west
> and I could not relocate it during a 90 minute search.

> Those interested in visiting Fort Drum must obtain a Fort Drum recreation
> permit, which is available at the Fort Drum Fish and Wildlife web site:
> www.fortdrum.isportsman.net. This website includes important information
> about how to access the installation, as well as directions to the Fort Drum
> Natural Resources Permit Office. The permit office itself is closed
> indefinitely, but Fort Drum recreation maps, bird checklists, and other
> information can be obtained at a kiosk adjacent to the office. Unlike in past
> years, passes are valid on a calendar year basis, so that a pass issued today
> is good through the end of December. Be aware that it is hunting season, and
> many hunters use Fort Drum, especially on weekends.
