Eight of us birded Croton Point County Park this morning. There were pockets of good bird activity in places sheltered from the wind off the Hudson.
Along the brushy edge between the ballfield parking and the landfill: flock of 30+ American goldfinches, 5 Fox sparrows together, a Common yellowthroat, a Winter wren, two Tree Sparrows, among the usual Juncos, Song & White-throated Sparrows. On the south side of the landfill: a Wilson's snipe flushed from the landfill down into the phrags by the river edge. A flock of 27 American pipits were seen a few times on the west and north side of the landfill. In the campground area, especially the lower, more sheltered tent camping area: small flocks of Cedar waxwings and American robins, Brown creeper, small number of both species of Kinglets, three additional Fox sparrows, a Hermit thrush, a few Yellow-rumped warblers, and a low flyover of a 1st year Bald eagle.
