A day spent birding from Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn to Jones Beach in
Nassau County with time in various Queens parks before and after produced the
following highlights:

Floyd Bennett Field - Lark Sparrow (seen after I left by others), still in the
same spot
Jones Beach - Northern Shrike (still hanging out just west of the swale)
Edgemere Landfill (Queens) - Snowy Owl (in the marsh by JFK - difficult viewing
through the heat haze)
Jamaica Bay - drake Eurasian Wigeon at south end of East Pond (no luck with the
hen), Barn Owl in the box at Big John's Pond
Kissena Park - European Goldfinch feeding with lots of American Goldfinches
Kissena Corridor Park - Common Linnet

The latter two birds have both been previously reported and are likely both
escapes, though I know of at least one birder preparing a NYSARC report on the
linnet. That bird has eluded me despite my regular visits to the corridor
during its entire stay. Perhaps it is easier to find now with less birds around
and no leaves on the trees?

Good Birding,
Corey Finger
