Two revisions to the preliminary summary for the Captree, Suffolk County, CBC
are important enough to publicize.

First, the report of Magnolia Warbler at Heckscher has been retracted. The
veteran observer who saw the bird did this the right way, by writing up a
detailed description of exactly what was observed in over a minute of contact
with the bird, and only later consulting identification material. The
relatively long views were nevertheless frustrating because neither the wing
nor the tail pattern was ever clearly seen. But the detailed description of the
face, chin, throat, breast, and back not only overturned the initial
identification but allowed for a confident re-identification as Nashville
Warbler, a more expected CBC species, but still only the second ever for the
Captree CBC.

Second, a homeowner in the northernmost reaches of the count circle was
prompted by the posted summary to check on the position of our circle. He
discovered that his yard is within the circle, and that the immature Red-headed
Woodpecker that has been visiting since November (and was seen on Sunday) was
therefore countable!
