Great day birding on the Upper Hudson from Stillwater to Troy, NY. Started at
Admiral's Marina in Stillwater with a pair of Mute Swans on the water and a
pair of adult Bald Eagles perched side by side, directly above with Common
Goldeneyes, Greater Scaup, Black Ducks, and Mallards on the water. Stopped at
the dentist office and picked up some perfect views of a single Barrow's
Goldeneye adult male, Bufflehead, Hooded Mergansers, Common Mergansers, 1
juvenile Bald Eagle, approximately 75-100 Common Goldeneye. Travelled to
Crescent Power Station and saw another Bald Eagle adult and a drake
Red-breasted Merganser. Came back through and observed a female Pintail on the
river in Mechanicville, near Lighthouse Park. Finished the day at the Fort
Edward Grasslands on Fitzpatrick Road and got fantastic views of a single
Short-Eared Owl at close range at 7:00 pm. Watched the owl swoop down and grab
a mouse from the ground directly next to a house, within 1 foot of the
foundation. Great day of birding in the southern portion of the North Country.
