Thanks to Dave Klauber for posting this update. As a result, I was able to leave Jamaica Bay this morning and catch up with the adult *Baird's Sandpiper*, where I enjoyed distant but satisfying looks with the finder Ken Feustel. I agree, this is indeed an excellent find for the reasons Dave cited and I was surprised at not seeing more birders lined up to see this bird (perhaps it was already seen by many?).
This makes the second adult *Baird's Sandpiper* that I have seen in the state. The other was on the East Pond at Jamaica Bay that I found last year on July 20th ( http://birdingdude.blogspot.com/2013/07/adult-bairds-sandpiper-at-jamaica-bay.html). The East Pond bird seems a bit more worn than Ken's bird, which appeared to show more white edging on the scapulars . Nice find and a very good bird for Nassau County.
