For those interested I have posted a gallery of images of some of the highlights of the See Life Paulagics trip out of Freeport, Long Island this past Sunday.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/103866258@N08/sets/72157650285511695/ At the end of the gallery there are a few photographs of an interesting gull in the Herring/Thayer's/Iceland complex showing characters of each. There was much discussion on the boat and I welcome any comments from the list. In the field, the bird was easily picked out by it's smaller feel, paler underwings, small round head and small bill. The wingtips were very black for an Iceland, but the bird had a light eye. A small percentage of Thayer's can have a light eye and the northern population of Herring Gull can show reduced black in the wingtips and show characters matching this bird. An interesting exercise and I image we will be able to get this bird to species when all was said and done.
