Around 10-10:30 this morning, the BOHEMIAN WAXWING at Fort Niagara State Park was showing well, along with about 30 Cedars, 4 Robins, and 4 PURPLE FINCHES. They were in the heavily laden fruit trees near the north entrance booths (the Parkway entrance).
Near the south end of Hulbert Road in the Town of Wilson, there was a huge flock of 550 SNOW BUNTINGS, 150 HORNED LARKS, and 9 LAPLAND LONGSPURS. The birds were usually far back in the field on the east side of the road and would often fly around the covered manure piles. They were not looking for openings to get at the manure but were landing on and below the weed stalks that were sticking above the snow - very redpoll like. I even saw a Tree Sparrow mixed in with them. They would also land in the fields but appeared to be just resting there, some with only their heads showing above the snow. Occasionally, they would come to the road as well. Except when they came to the road, a scope was necessary to pick out the longspurs. Good birding!
