A female Barrow's Goldeneye was in the company of 21 Common Goldeneyes this
morning in Pumpkin Channel off the West Pond trail at Jamaica Bay Wildlife
Refuge (JBWR).

While there are still areas in the bay covered by ice, the water has opened
up and some waterfowl remain in the area. Other waterfowl observed in
Pumpkin Channel included, Horned Grebe, Bufflehead, Red-breasted Merganser
and both Greater and Lesser Scaup.

Over at Big Egg Marsh, hundreds of Snow Geese are still around; nothing
rare in the flock despite a careful search--the only notables were 5 Blue
Morphs and 1 yellow neck banded bird.

Cheers,
