All; An Adult Bald Eagle (which is part of an actively nesting pair) spent a good amount of time perched near the nest today along the South Shore of Long Island (location undisclosed for now). After awhile it moved to a perch a bit further from the nest - only for some Osprey to show which then had to be chased off. I have some images and a short video on my blog: http://birdsoflongisland.blogspot.com/2015/03/sit-and-wait-bald-eagle-edition.html
Swan River Preserve in East Patchogue had 1 Gadwall and a flycatcher (species undetermined) and Bellport Docks had 1 Red-necked Grebe (winter plumage) and some Buffleheads. A Northern Harrier was seen in Brookhaven Hamlet over the marsh and at least 3 Osprey were seen in the river/lake just south of Caanan Lake and just north of Sunrise Highway in Patchogue this afternoon. -- - Luke Ormand, East Patchogue www.birdsoflongisland.blogspot.com -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
