The first Paulagics trip out of Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn on the "Brooklyn
VI" had a distinctly winter feel given the date and air temps. Water temps
never got above 43 degrees. The captain informed us this is about a month
behind schedule! That said there were still some great birds!

Official tallies haven't been made, but species highlights are as follows:

Iceland Gull
Glaucous Gull
Lesser Black-backed Gull
Bonaparte's Gull
Common Murre
Razorbill
Sooty Shearwater
Green-winged Teal
Large numbers of all 3 Scoter and Double-crested Cormorants.
Kestrel (2 Cutting the corner from NJ to LI.)

Passerines:

Palm Warbler
Northern Flicker
Brown-headed Cowbird (pair rode with us for miles)
Red-winged Blackbird

Marine Mammals:

Fin Whale
Harbor Seal

The boat is simply a beast (in a good way). People were already scoping out
where they were going to sleep on the May overnighter. Ebird lists from the
trip will be generated and shared by the end of the week for those looking
for more specific data.

Cheers,
