Today in the late afternoon when the adult heron stood up in the nest I
finally spotted movement near the base of the nest of a very small
nestling. This was visible as movement near the adult through the breaks in
the twig nest. It appeared the young bird was righting itself and then
settled down. The appearance of young is right on time and if all goes well
fledging should happen around the first week of August plus or minus one
week based on 'The Birds of North America' online subscription site.
