Autocorrect wreaked havoc on my post. It doesn't like many words like
grasspipers, Riverhead, Northville,and plovers are apparently lovers.
A bit more detail
We saw the Common Gallinule and about 5 Solitary Sandpipers around 8 AM on the
Calverton pond previously mentioned. A few Grasshopper Sparrows were present
north of the Calverton / Grumman property. Around 9 we ran into Mary Normandia
who was looking at about 10 scattered Golden Plovers (with a P, no lovers) on
the northern part of Northville Turnpike, which disappeared a little while
later. From the fireman's facility further south another group (Michael Yuan?)
found 1 Golden with a few Killdeer. More unusual was an adult Lesser
Black-backed Gull by the junction of Doctor's Path and Reeves Avenue. Farm
machinery was active which didn't help. Later we found 2 Buff-breasted
Sandpipers with about 10 Killdeer on the southwestern portion of the field on
Osborne Avenue, south of Sound Avenue. There had been a few buffies the evening
before near the fireman's facilty
