Everything looks great for a wild bird. Feathers, claws etc show no sign of 
being in a cage. Also dates perfect for vagrant Painted Bunting.

Paul, The association was lose and brief and after I posted the European 
Goldfinches stayed higher in the trees before they left while the Painted 
Bunting re-appared all by itself on the South slope feeding from ground level 
to 3' high. It is alone almost all the times.
Most of the seasoned birders in Brooklyn have seen it without raising an issue. 
I would not be capable of telling the difference but here is a photo of the the

Can you confirm the Painted Bunting was associating with 7 European 
Goldfinches? If so this casts some doubt on the Bunting being a wild bird no?
