Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City -

On a day when it seems maybe far more migrants exited last night than arrived and anyhow uncommon in Central- a calling male Eastern Bluebird adds some color to the area near The Dairy. The bird was a bit to the north, not far from the E. 65 St. Transverse, & just below the main Drive (or, to place in another way, roughly south of the south end of the Mall, but across the main road to the s.) & was slightly vocal when I was there. There were a couple of other folks already looking at it, but I didn't see that they had binoculars. I had word from a few folks of the sighting by(?) A nice find, anytime in Manhattan.

Other birds seen in the park so far were rather few in the migrant category, with a Pine Warbler or two, & some kinglets, Gnatcatchers, & very few Hermit Thrush & Chipping Sparrows this day. The reservoir still contained some of the same duckage, coots, & Pied-billed Grebe as recently, and multiple D.-cr. Cormorants continue to raise brief hopes of a loon-in-park sighting. Gulling was rather limited, but the 'usual' three species of them can be seen in a close scan of the rather wind-tossed waters of the reservoir. An early visit to the south end of the park had found very little (at least for me) but a return for bluebird, worth the extra travel.

good luck,
