Double-crested Cormorant - flyovers Great Egret - Lake Black-crowned Night-Heron- flying low over the Lake Red-tailed Hawk - perched at the Mouth of the Gill Chimney Swift - 2 Red-bellied Woodpecker - several pairs Downy Woodpecker - 3 Evodia Field feeders Northern Flicker- pair on lawn near Boathouse White-eyed Vireo - south side Maintenance Field Yellow-throated Vireo - 2 total - East side of Maintenance Field & near benches at Swampy Pin Oak Blue-headed Vireo - 5 - 2 in Strawberry Fields, others in the Ramble Warbling Vireo - pair Maintenance Field, 1 Summer House Red-eyed Vireo - 2 Ramble Black-capped Chickadee - pair feeders Tufted Titmouse - heard Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - at least 5 including 2 females Ruby-crowned Kinglet - modest numbers Hermit Thrush - a few Gray Catbird - scattered Ovenbird - about 5 Ramble Worm-eating Warbler - total 2 - Evodia Field & Captain's Bench/Balancing Rock Louisiana Waterthrush - Triplet's Bridge Northern Waterthrush - 3 Blue-winged Warbler - male Mouth of Gill Black-and-white Warbler - 10 (8 males) Swainson's Warbler - possible - heard only Strawberry Fields* Nashville Warbler - Captain's Bench/Balancing Rock Common Yellowthroat - male and female Strawberry Fields American Redstart - Upper Lobe Blackburnian Warbler - Captain's Bench/Balancing Rock Yellow Warbler - 4 males, 1 female (Strawberry Fields & the Point) Palm Warbler - the Point Yellow-rumped Warbler - 15 mostly females Eastern Towhee - many - 60% female, 40% male Chipping Sparrow - many along the East Drive Field Sparrow - Strawberry Fields (with Ben King) Song Sparrow - singing at the island in the Lake Swamp Sparrow - the Gill White-throated Sparrow Rose-breasted Grosbeak - male feeding on elm seeds Evodia Field Indigo Bunting - male Swampy Pin Oak Red-winged Blackbird - young male at feeders Brown-headed Cowbird - males & female at feeders Baltimore Oriole - 2 males - Azalea Pond & Captain's Bench/Balancing Rock House Finch - Evodia Field feeders American Goldfinch - 10 *Several people at Strawberry Fields this morning including Robert DeCandido, Ben King, Will Papp, and Robert Ruvolo, MD heard what sounded like a Swainson's Warbler respond to a recording in Strawberry Fields close to the north end on the wood chip path. Birders may want to continue to look for the bird in the area. Doug Kurz reported a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker at the feeders. Carine Mitchell reported a White-crowned Sparrow at Strawberry Fields after the walk.
