This evening at around 6:00 there was a Franklin's Gull present At Wolfe's Pond Park, on Staten Island's south shore. The bird was roosting with many Laughing Gulls and a couple of Caspian Terns on a sandbar west of the pond (at rising tide). After a few minutes of the observation the bird followed a few Laughing Gulls and flew straight out into the bay, headed toward New Jersey, probably because the sandbar became submerged. A bad but diagnostic photo can be seen on the eBird checklist here: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S31894527
