Central Park NYC - North End Friday Oct. 28, 2016 OBS: Deborah Allen, m.ob. on bird walk starting at the Conservatory Garden at 9am. & some afternoon birding at the Reservoir, Great Lawn, Turtle Pond & parts of the Ramble.
Highlights: Orange-crowned Warbler & Empidonax Flycatcher (the Empid was in heavy molt with many tail feathers growing in and many feathers missing from the wing bars, warm olive on the back with a brown head, small (about 5") beak to tail - might be worth looking for tomorrow). Canada Goose - heard at the north end, several at the Upper Lobe Wood Duck - 2 males continue Turtle Pond Gadwall - 2 males at the Meer Mallard - more than 50 at the Meer, more than 40 at the Pool, others Reservoir, etc. Northern Shoveler - 7 Meer, 3 Reservoir Bufflhead - 4 north end of Reservoir Hooded Merganser - 2 males & 2 females west side of Reservoir Ruddy Duck - 22 Meer, around a hundred north and west sides of Reservoir Mourning Dove - the largest flock around 50 birds American Coot - 2 west side Reservoir Ring-billed, Herring, and Great black-backed Gulls - less than 100 total Reservoir, but many flyover Herring Gulls Cooper's Hawk - 2 (adult female perched at Wildflower Meadow, 1st-cycle flyover Conservatory Garden) Red-tailed Hawk - probably 4 (around a dozen flyovers but no definite migrants) Red-bellied Woodpecker - several Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - 2 Great Hill Northern Flicker - 2 Wildflower Meadow Empidonax Flycatcher - west side Great Lawn (around 2pm) Eastern Phoebe - 6 (3 together along fence north end of N.
