All, Below are the preliminary results from the Central Park CBC, which took place on Sunday, December 18. We had ~75 participants this year and saw 59 species.
Highlights (bolded below) were American Wigeon and Iceland Gull on the Reservoir, a Common Yellowthroat east of the Pond, a Killdeer in the North Meadow, and a Northern Pintail on the Pond. Some misses were Red-breasted Nuthatch, Cedar Waxwing, and Brown Thrasher. We did get a Thrasher during Count Week though, as well as Snow Geese, a Black-throated Blue Warbler, and possibly a Green-winged Teal. Results for the entire New Jersey Lower Hudson (NJLH) count circle will be available soon. So far we have word of Baltimore Orioles in various locations, an Orange-crowned Warbler in northern Manhattan, and a Lincoln's Sparrow in Bryant Park. Unfortunately it seems our Western Tanager and various late warblers are no longer in City Hall Park, though we still have another day for Count Week. We did get one of the recent lower Manhattan Yellow-breasted Chats for Count Week though! More results from NJLH to follow soon.
