A City Island Birds walk was supposed to be Sunday but was rescheduled late
yesterday for this morning because of the weather forecast. We were rewarded
with a beautiful day, wonderful friendly people and some nice birds.

A very cooperative Wilson’s Snipe and Pectoral Sandpiper were the highlights.

Sadly we missed a LeConte’s Sparrow in Turtle Cove, seen only minutes before we
arrived by other birders. This is indeed a good find and a rarity for here. We
waited for the bird to emerge from the grasses. It popped up and Matthieu
Benoit saw it momentarily. If one waits, they may get lucky. I believe it is
still in the vicinity. The bird was seen near the metal bridge. There were about
a dozen of us in a small space and I’m guessing our presence kept the bird in
the spartina.
