I spent the morning mostly at Riis Park and later on at the Fort Tilden
Fisherman's parking lot and a bit at Breezy Point.

It was nice and "cool" when I started around 7:00 AM, which began with a
seawatch at RIIS. It was encouraged by the Gull action. An active school of
Bunker was on the move and it pulled in several hundred Gulls attracted to easy
pickings.

Throughout the day, I kept track of the Gull action in the midst of some good
ole "ground and pound" land birding. Despite the number of Gulls, I did not
find anything of note. The Gull flock consisted of Great Black-backed,
Ring-billed, Laughing, Lesser-black Backed (2), Bonaparte's and the dominant
presence of Herring Gulls.

I fared better with the land birds pulling out some lingering hardies, all at
Riis. The highlights were: BALTIMORE ORIOLE (1), NASHVILLE WARBLER (1) and
RED-EYED VIREO (2).

Ruby-crowned Kinglet (2), Hermit Thrush (6), Swamp Sparrow (5), Gray Catbird
(3) Brown Thrasher and Orange-crowned Warbler were also good on this "cool" day.

Lots of Red-winged Blackbirds were moving throughout the day and my flock
count/estimation was 2500 by the time I called it a day. Among the Red-winged
Blackbird flocks were small numbers of other passerines, including Cedar
Waxwings, Rusty Blackbirds and Cowbirds.

Cheers,
