4 Black Vultures - rare for Queens County - flew low over Alley Marsh today, and were tallied for the Alley Creek Hawk Watch. The season's first Osprey for here also appeared. And more Bald Eagles.
A note for anyone that occasionally comes to bird here, or might want to try hawk watching as a way to get Black Vulture on your Queens list. The Alley Pond Environmental Center building is being rebuilt. The parking lot is closed. For parking, use the Alley Pond Golf Center to the east and walk back to the west for birding on the north side of Northern Blvd., or cross the road and walk a slight distance east to 234th street for birding in Alley Marsh. The Parks Department prefers that non-golfers park toward the east end of the parking lot.
