People did call, but it was likely a lost cause.

Due to Avian flu concerns, many won't risk it right now.

People visiting the crossings should keep an eye out for other sick birds until
a pathology report comes back.

Next time you all see a bird that is unwell (especially a rare one) why don't
you call a rehabilitator? 518.964.6740 (north country wild care) or you can go
to ahnow.org type in your location, it will populate a list of local wildlife
rehabilitators. There are several veterinarians in the area who work with
wildlife and may have been able to save the bird. Also, the dead bird should
have been taken to the state wildlife pathology lab at 5 rivers for a necropsy
(they would have then given it to the museum).

The kittiwake was found deceased about an hour ago and the specimen was
collected by two birders who plan to bring it to the New York State Museum.
