Attendees will gain a firsthand perspective on the captivating world of
bird banding from Harvey who will share his unique insights and experiences
in the field at Tobay Beach, Teddy Roosevelt Sanctuary and Green Tree
private estate. He will explain the art of identifying, male or female
birds hatching year birds (HY), and after hatching year birds (AHY) as well
the art of separating very close species.

As a seasoned birder with over 50 years of experience, *Harvey Farber *was
born in Stockport, England, and that is where he first discovered his love
for birding as a young child. To improve his bird identification skills, he
bought a small bird book and a pair of binoculars, which he still has today
along with the life list of the early birds he identified. In 1957, Harvey
and his family moved to the United States, but his passion for birding
continued. In the early 1960s, he had an exciting encounter at Tobay Beach,
Long Island. There he observed a few individuals, including Bob Paxton,
Tony Lauro and Tom Davis, banding birds. This experience left a lasting
impression on him, inspiring him to assist them every weekend in May,
September, and October during bird migration. After about three years,
Harvey obtained his own Federal permit, allowing him to participate in bird
banding.
