I downloaded Virtual PC and a pre-built VM from MS the other day for
IE6 Testing:

http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=21eabb90-958f-4b64-b5f1-73d0a413c8ef&displaylang=en

Expires December, but avoids license hassles, finding that XP disk
etc. I think an option there is also Vista etc

Also MS Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition is free and provides
very good IE integrated JS debugging after some (documented on
internet) fooling around with settings.

They're all big hits though as despite MS being really slow on the
internet uptake they still seem to expect you to have fiber to your
desk.

Biggest hassle with CSS I found is that doing:

<div class="box">
        <div class="top"></div>
        <div class="middle"></div>
        <div class="bottom"></div>
</div>

The top middle and bottom don't map to '.box .top', '.box .middle' etc
just '.top', '.middle' so after design working in IE7, FF2 & 3, Safari
what have you then went back, put in IE6 comment:

        <!--[if lt IE 7]>
                <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"
href="/css/ie6hacks.css"/>
        <![endif]-->

Then added id's to the div's causing problems and fixed styles in
ie6hacks.css. Once I'd figured out this was the way to go took a very
short time indeed to fix up the templates.

Also used yahoo's yui to do a reset at top of page.

Cheers,
Steve
