Hi, I got a list of NZ regions and suburb (much more detailed than the list you propose), from the following link: http://www.noodles.net.nz/2007/09/14/new-zealand-postcode-database-v2/ (may have taken that link from this list btw...)
There are 11 regions and about 1000 suburbs With the google map API, I am able to locate most of these locations on a map; however there are four regions, which are actually grouped region, that Google cannot find. They should be split, and the relevant suburbs assigned to the proper corresponding regions, but I did not have time to do that...
